Tropicana Field bag policy 2023 is that the fans cannot bring bags larger than 16" x 8". Small medical device bags and diaper bags are allowed to carry.

Originally known as the Florida Suncoast Dome, Tropicana Field opened in 1990. The ballpark has been home to the Bay Rays since their establishment in 1998.

The stadium has specific rules regarding what fans can bring and can't bring into the ballpark, including bags and food. There are restrictions on what type of bags and what size are allowed.

The same is with the food; except for some specific foods, other items can not be taken inside the stadium. All these rules are kept to speed up the entry and protect the fans who come to enjoy the ball game.

The ballpark has hosted several other sports events, including basketball, football, WWE, and hockey.

Bag Policy

Tropicana Field bag rules state that fans can't bring items larger than 16" x 16" x 8". The size is the same for all items like bags, purses, coolers, and more.

Fans can bring smaller bags, fanny packs, medical bags, and any other bag that does not exceed the given size. People with children are allowed to bring diaper bags with them.

Tropicana Field bag policy 2022 was similar to that of now. Before the 2022 season, fans were not allowed to bring in bags, no matter the size, due to the pandemic.

However, the 2022 season saw a change in that policy as the pandemic started easing.

Here are some of the bags that are allowed inside Tropicana Field:

  • Tote Bag
  • Fanny pack
  • Small purse
  • Diaper Bag
  • A clear backpack not exceeding the size limit

There are seven gates at the ballpark, and all of them have metal detectors through which fans have to pass. While entering, the officials will thoroughly check your bag and only allow them if they meet the stadium's rules and policies.

Any bag or item deemed prohibited by the officials must be returned to the vehicle or given away. The stadium does not hold your items for you, and there is no locker where you can place your things, like in Phillies Stadium.

In addition to bags, fans are not allowed to bring other things like banners or other materials that obstruct the view of others. Anything deemed a risk to the health and safety of other fans is not allowed inside the stadium.

Here are some of the other prohibited items inside the ballpark:

  • Any alcoholic beverages
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Drones
  • Explosives and fireworks
  • Wrapped packages
  • Lasers
  • Footwear with wheels
  • Cameras with lenses longer than 12"

Food Policy

Tropicana Field food policy does not allow fans to bring food and drinks to the stadium. Only a sealed bottle of water can be taken.

The water bottle must be at most twenty ounces. Some exceptions are made in terms of fans with kids or medical reasons.

Fans carrying food for dietary reasons for their kids or any medical cause are allowed to take it after inspection, given that the food is in a bag that meets the MLB and ballpark's standards.

Any beverage that contains alcohol is not allowed inside. Fans can buy alcohol inside the stadium, provided an ID confirming they are above 21 years old, the legal limit in Florida.

The alcohol sale is stopped in the middle of the eighth inning, whereas only two beverages are allowed for a person during one purchase.

Tropicana Field Open or Closed

Is Tropicana Field Covered? The short answer is Yes. It is the only stadium in the major league that is closed, as it has a roof that is not retractable.

The ballpark of the MLB team from Florida is covered with a roof to protect the players from the extreme weather of the city. The top is slanted at an angle to reduce cooling costs by reducing the interior volume.

The diagonal angle also helps to reduce the impact of hurricanes and winds, which occur frequently in the region. Catwalks are attached to the roofs that work as a support.

There are four catwalks named A, B, C, and D. While playing, if the batter hits the ball, strikes either A or the B ring, and falls safely on the ground, the ball is live and in play.

However, if the ball hits the C and D rings in fair territory, it is given as a home run. It also includes any lights, suspended objects, or angled support rods attached to the catwalks or connected to the C ring and supporting the D ring in fair territory.

The batter is out if a fielder catches the ball after it strikes the A and B rings. Similarly, the batter can run if the ball falls safely after hitting the catwalks.

In addition, if the ball lands on the catwalk or any other object supporting the catwalk in fair territory, two bases are awarded, whereas a ball stuck over the foul territory is called a dead ball.
