Texas Rangers Head Coach
Bruce Bochy is a former baseball player who became the team manager in October 2022.
The Rangers job is not the first managerial stint for Bochy, since he has been involved in the managerial role since 1995. At that time, Bruce had been managing the San Diego Padres, the club from where he retired as a player. He spent 12 years with the Padres and then moved to the SF Giants in the 2007 season.
Bochy helped the Padres win the NL Pennant in the 1998 season and had established a 98-64 win-loss record that year. In his 12-year time frame for Padres, he guided the team to 951 wins from 1926 matches and had a .494 winning percentage.
Starting his Giants managerial career in 2007, Bochy found more success with this team, winning three World Series in 2010, 2012, and 2014. During the 13 years, Bruce registered 1052 wins and 1054 losses for the Giants. In 2023, Bochy has been successful so far, since Texas is the AL West leader.
As a former baseballer, Bochy debuted for the Houston Astros in the 1978 season. After three years, Bruce went to the Mets and moved to the Padres in 1982. Bochy played in San Diego until 1987 and registered 20 homers and 448 at-bats.
Texas Rangers Hitting Coach
Tim Hyers has been the hitting coach for the Lone Stars since his arrival in November 2022.
Hyers started his coaching career with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2016 season. He only worked there for two seasons and then transferred to Boston Red Sox, where he stayed till the 2022 season. During his time in BoSox, the team's average runs were 4.9 and guided the team to the 2018 World Series.
In 2021, the Red Sox scored 5.1 runs on average per game, and 2019 saw the team make 5.6 runs per match. Although it seemed a good match for both parties in the long run, Tim decided to leave the team for a fresh challenge and new environment.
Playing four years in the MLB, Hyers debuted for the San Diego Padres in 1994. Tim spent two years with the Californian team and then moved Mid-west to Detroit Tigers in 1996. The first baseman contributed 2 dingers, 19 RBI, and a .217 batting average.
Texas Rangers Pitching Coach
Mike Maddux became the pitching coach for the Rangers in 209. Maddux rejoined the coaching list alongside Bochy in 2023.
Maddux started coaching the team's pitching in 2009 after Nolan Ryan hired him to fix the franchise's terrible ERA record since they had not gone below 4 since 1990. Mike accepted the challenge and in the 2009 season, led Texas to a decrement by 0.99 ERA. During his coaching years, the Rangers saw their ERA become 4.04 collectively.
Under Maddox's pitching guidance, the team won two AL Championships and made four playoff appearances. Per MLB, GM Chris Young remarked that Mike was the most successful Rangers coach in history. In 2015, Maddux parted ways with Texas and moved to Washington Nationals and then later traveled to the Cardinals in 2017.
As an MLB pitcher, Maddox played his early years for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1986 to 1989. Later, he got involved with many teams like the Mets, Red Sox, and Dodgers. in his 15-year service, Mike contributed 39 wins, 4.05 ERA, and 564 strikeouts from 861.2 innings pitched.
