How many MLB teams have not won the world series? There are only six teams who haven't won the World Series.
The modern World Championship Series has been contested 118 times as of 2022. The most appeared team in the game are New York Yankees with 40 and Los Angeles Dodgers with just 21 appearances.
With the most wins, the Yankees have faced Dodgers 11 times making it the most frequent matchup in the series. So the Yankees are considered the ruler of the American League East Division.
With very few appearances in the series, there are six teams without the title.

1. San Diego Padres
Being one of the oldest teams in the MLB, they have never won the Championship Series till now but appeared in two of them.
They won two National League pennants in 1984 and 1998 but lost in both years. In the first year, they faced Detroit Tigers, and the second time; they faced New York Yankees.
Sand Diego Padres faced Detroit Tigers in the Series of 1984 and lost by a 4-1 score.
The Padres advanced to the event in 1998 by defeating Chicago Cubs in the NL division series with a 3-2 score. While entering for the second time in the series, they won over Atlanta Braves with a 4-2 score.
2. Milwaukee Brewers
Only winning American League for one time, Brewers got into the World Championship Series in 1982 and played against St. Louis Cardinals.
The seven games happened between those teams in which the Brewers were defeated with one less win than the Cardinals. It was held in Busch and Milwaukee County Stadium, and Darrell Porter from the Cardinals became the MVP at that game.
The Brewers won over California Angels in American League Championship Series in the same year to appear. With their only appearance, they are yet to win the title.
3. Texas Rangers
Texas Rangers appeared consecutively for two years in 2010 and 2011 and lost both times.
In 2010, the Rangers appeared playing against San Francisco Giants with a score of 4-1. They won over New York Yankees in the American League to reach for the ultimate World Championship Series.
After defeating Detroit Tigers in the 2011 American League, the Rangers reached the World Series but were defeated by St. Louis Cardinals. They won by 4-3 in the game, held from October 19-28, 2011.
4. Seattle Mariners
Seattle Mariners are the only team on MLB to never appear in the World Championship Series.
They hold the record for the longest active Series appearance drought in MLB. They are associated with the American League West Division and haven't won any pennants.
Established in 1977, the team is based in Seattle and managed by Scott Servais. Although they haven't won any Series, they have set the American League record for most wins in a single season by winning 116 games in 2001.
5. Tampa Bay Rays
Tampa Bay Rays appeared in two World Championships in 2008 and 2020.
The Rays started their journey in 1998 and affiliated with the American League East Division. They are the newest teams in MLB to be founded in that year.
Even though they are new, they have still appeared two times in the World Series, winning the American League title. They defeated the Red Sox with a 4-3 score; Rays later reached the Championship Series but lost against Philadelphia Phillies.
Their second appearance came in 2020 when they faced Los Angeles Dodgers and lost by a 4-2 score. They had won over the 2022 champion Houston Astros in the 2020 American League Championship Series.
