Who Gets Home-field Advantage In World Series 2023?
Home-field advantage in the 2023 World Series will be with the team with the best regular season record. The Braves finished with the best record in the MLB.
However, the Braves must first make it past the National League Division Series and Championship Series to have that advantage. They are followed by the Baltimore Orioles, who have the second-best record of 101- 61 in Major League Baseball.
Although the Braves have the best record in the entire major league, who gets the home-field advantage during the Fall Classic event is unknown as there are a lot of uncertainties around the event.
For example, the Dbacks have the least-best record in the National League and are seeded sixth, and the Blue Jays have the least-best record in the American League. If these teams win their respective Wild Card, Division, and Championship Series and advance to the World Series, the Blue Jays will have the advantage.
The Blue Jays finished the 2023 campaign with a record of 89-73, whereas the Dbacks finished with 84-78. Hence, having the best record in the major league is not enough to capitalize on the advantage; the team also should make it to the World Series.
Here are the twelve teams that are in the 2023 MLB playoffs ranked based on their regular season record:
- Atlanta Braves – 104-58
- Baltimore Orioles – 101-61
- Los Angeles Dodgers – 100-60
- Tampa Bay Rays – 99-63
- Milwaukee Brewers – 92-70
- Houston Astros – 90-72
- Philadelphia Phillies – 90-72
- Texas Rangers – 90-72
- Toronto Blue Jays – 89-73
- Minnesota Twins – 87-75
- Miami Marlins – 84-77
- Arizona Diamondbacks – 84-78
The Diamondbacks are the only team in the major league with no chance of getting the home-field advantage even if they make it to the World Series, as they have the worst record among the twelve teams that have qualified for the playoffs.
MLB home field advantage in playoffs is based on the seeding of the teams. The first three seeds, from 1 to 3, are seeded among the three winners of the division, with the team having the best record being seeded first and so on.
The rest of the seeds from 4 to 6 are the three teams with the best regular season record among the remaining 12 teams. There is also a chance that a team with a better record can be seeded lower.
For example, the Toronto Blue Jays finished the 2023 season with a record of 89-73, and the Minnesota Twins finished at 87-75. But the Twins won the AL Central title and are seeded at number 3, whereas the Blue Jays finished third in the AL East and are seeded at number 6.
Even though the Toronto team has a better record in the regular season than the Twins, because of the seeding, the Twins have the home-field advantage in their Wild Card Series against the Blue Jays scheduled to start on October 3.
