Further, they also help bring baseballs to the umpire during the game. Bat boys have been part of baseball since the early 1880s.

They are seen in their associated team's dugout or the home plate wearing the same uniform as the team. During an MLB game, bat boys from both teams are selected from the city where the game is being played.

Hence, the Bat boys don't travel with the team. The home MLB team has its bat boy, whereas the opposition is assigned one.

Considering all these factors, it adds up to an annual salary between $20,000 and $30,000. However, some bat boys make more than $30,000, depending on the team they work for.

Although the amount may not be attractive, considering it's a part-time job, it is one of the most sought-after jobs. In addition, you get the chance to watch the game from the dugout, meet players, and so on.

A bat boy is also eligible for bonuses and remuneration depending on the team's performance and other factors.

If the team qualifies for the post-season, the bat boys can work in more games, thus increasing their annual salary. Moreover, the players sometimes tip the bat boys as well.

The first qualification to be an MLB Bat Boy is you must be fourteen years old. In addition, you need to be in decent physical shape as well.

Yankees bat boy salary is estimated at an average of $56,000 per year. The daily pay for the bat boys is $21.50 for six hours.

The pay may vary according to the team, but there is not much difference in the amount.

Yankees Bat Boy Long Hair Story And Rules

New York Yankees have a rule under their Neatness Counts policy. The rule was started by George Steinbrenner, the late owner of the team.

The rule says that no player, coach, or male executive can have hair that reaches the collar of their shirt or any facial hair other than a mustache.

However, on 11 April 2023, the Yankees Bat Boy was seen breaking the rule. He had long blonde hair that reached well beyond his collar and some beard below the chin.

It was first noted by the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball commentator Michael Kay. This caused a debate in social media, with some fans angry about the boy breaking the rules, whereas others found it hilarious.

The Bat Boy was not allowed to flaunt his long hair during the second game the following day. They had him tuck his hair under his helmet.

MLB Ball Boy Salary vs Bat Boy Salary

MLB Ball Boy salary is relatively higher than that of the Bat Boys. However, the ball boys are not as involved as the bat boys in the game.

There is no fixed salary as it varies according to teams. Some ball boys earn as little as $15 per hour, while there are some that make up to $200 per game.

However, according to ZipRecruiter, the average salary for a Ball Boy in the USA is about $48,376 annually.

On the other hand, the average salary for an MLB Bat Boy is around $10-$15 per hour. Further, some earn a flat rate ranging from $60-$100 per game, making the annual salary between $20,000 and $30,000.

As both Ball Boys and Bat Boys are part-time employees not on the team's salary sheets, their salaries depend on various factors such as the number of games.
