“Honestly, I had a feeling,” she said. “Hunter works all year long, always has on his baseball. He’d find a way.” She calls it the greatest moment of her life after the birth of her four children.

Hunter Brown Dad Kevin Brown

Hunter Brown father Kevin Brown is one of the biggest support systems he has.

When #58 made his stellar MLB debut against the Rangers at Minute Maid Park on 5 September 2022, the presence of his parents and family meant everything to him.

Kim and Kevin Brown flew all the way from Michigan to Houston to watch their youngest child make his big debut. However, they could not separate the experience from all that had led up to it.

In Astros’ 1-0 victory, Hunter hurled six shutout innings to gain his first major league win. In doing so, he became the first Astros player to record a quality start since Jarred Cosart in July 2013.

Kevin and the rest of the family were always confident about Hunter and his career prospects. “Patience and faith, all the way through,” he said, describing his son as very result-driven and goal-oriented.

Since he was achieving his goals and seeing the results, Hunter was very calm and patient. Kevin had been nothing short of confident in his abilties.

Kevin's father was joined by his mother, sister (Maddie), uncle, and girlfriend (Caley Gibson), all donning the custom No. 58 Astros jerseys to lead the Brown fan club at Section 122.

While he was nervous for the big day, Hunter says it was nice to hear the fans. "Not a knock on any other fan bases, but yeah, I guess it was a little bit louder than I anticipated. It was definitely really cool,” the pitcher said.

Kevin calls August 29 "one of the greatest days of his life twice,” since it was not only the day Hunter was born, but also the day the Astros informed him that they were adding him to the taxi squad as a preparation to putting him in the major league roster later that week.

However, Hunter's opportunity had arrived at the expense of the pitcher who was his idol. Justin Verlander’s calf injury had cleared the path for Hunter to the major league pitching staff.

Hunter's dad said that the two had a lot in common and that “Not only did he [Hunter] grow up idolizing him [Justin], he mirrored him.”
