Georgia Minor League Teams
Minor league baseball teams list in Georgia include Gwinett Stripers and Rome Braves. Georgia Rhinos is also an independent minor league team.
These teams are affiliated with some MLB teams and are functioning in different states. Here are two popular minor league baseball teams in Georgia.
Gwinett Striper is the AAA MiLB team affiliated with the Atlanta Braves. They started playing at Coolray Field in 2009.
The Triple-A affiliate was initially called the Gwinnett Braves and they changed their name to Gwinett Stripers in 2018. Stripers changed their name after a contest that featured finalist nicknames like Big Mouths, Buttons, and Hush Puppies. The Stripers is after striped bass.
The Stripers repositioned from the IL to the Triple-A East in 2021. It was subsequently renamed the International Club in 2022.
The Stripers won three Rookie of the Year awards between 2010 and 2012. They have also grabbed several other awards including Freddie Freeman in 2010, Julio Teherán in 2011, and Ernesto Mejía in 2012.
Gwinett Stripers are also the winner of the South Division title in 2016 and 2019.
The Rome Braves are a High-A minor club affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. This team plays in the South Atlantic League and State Mutual Stadium.
The team was founded in 1980 as the Anderson Braves and featured future MLB stars Brett Butler, Brook Jacoby, and Brad Komminsk. It was then moved to Sumter, Macon, and finally to Rome, Georgia, where they have played since 2003.
The inaugural season in 2003 was a success for the team as they were the winner of the South Atlantic Championship. The team got its status as a High A affiliate of the Braves after they were elevated from Class A in 2021.
