2023 World Baseball Classic Manager And Roster

The team Canada manager for the 2023 WBC is Ernie Whitt.

Ernie has been managing the Canadian national team since 2004. He led Canada to its Gold medal in the 2011 Pan Am Games. He also helped Canada bag 4th place in the 2004 Olympics. 

As a former baseball pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays, Whitt started his MLB career via Boston Red Sox in 1976. However, he moved to Blue Jays in 1977 and had a great career there from 1980 to 1989. Ernie sits in the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame since his induction in 2009. 

It is Canada's fifth appearance in the WBC, and their best performance came during the 2006 tournaments when they reached 9th place in the first round.

The 2023 WBC team Australia manager is former MLB player Dave Nilsson. 

Dave started managing the national team in 2018. He previously managed the Brisbane Bandits in the Australian Baseball League. He had achieved three ABL Championships with the Bandits. 

The 53-year-old played for the Milwaukee Brewers in the MLB from 1992 to 1999. Dave is inducted into the Milwaukee Brewers Wall of Honor and Sport Australia Hall of Fame. 

Australia has yet to win a WBC and their best performance came during 2023 when they reached Round 2.

The 2023 WBC team Mexico manager is Benji Gil. 

Benji got hired to become the national team coach in 2021 for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He previously coached the Mexican Pacific League's team called Tomateros de Culiacán in 2014. He led the team to its LMP championships three times.

As a former infielder for the MLB, he gained lots of baseball experience from his years in the Texas Rangers and Anaheim Angels. He assisted the Angels to its World Series title win in 2002.

Mexico has appeared in every WBC tournament; this is their 5th appearance. Their best result was during the 2006 edition when they reached the 2nd round and bagged the 6th position.

The team Columbia manager for the 2023 WBC is Jolbert Cabrera.

Jolbert began as a manager for the Columbian national team in 2017. With a decade of baseball experience in the MLB, the former outfielder and infielder, has made 16 home runs with a .257 batting average. 

Born in Colombia's Cartagena, the 50-year-old made his first appearance for the Cleveland Indians in April 1998. He also played in Japan's NPB for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in the 2005 - 2006 season.

Columbia has played only two WBCs, with their first being in 2017. Jolbert guided the team during the 2017 tournament to bag the 11th position in the first round.

The team Great Britain manager for the 2023 WBC is Drew Spencer.

Drew has been managing Britain's national team since September 2020. He guided the team to win the Qualifier round against countries like Spain and Germany. 

Moreover, Spencer is responsible for supervising the operations of 6 teams that are part of the National Teams Programme in Great Britain.

After graduating from Dartmouth University, Drew volunteered as the Chairman for the London Mets Baseball & Softball Club. He also was the League Commisooner for the London Sports. 

Under Drew, Great Britain will make their 1st WBC appearance in March 2023 and hope for a great impression.

The 2023 WBC team Dominican Republic manager is Rodney Linares. 

Linares has managerial experience, being the coach for the Tampa Bay Rays in the MLB. He has been present there since 2019. he formerly worked for the Houston Astros organization in 2007.

Dominican Republic will make its 5th appearance in the WBC, and many of its players play in the MLB. They were the 2013 WBC Champions.

The 2023 WBC team Israel manager is former MLB Baseman, Ian Kinsler.

Ian joined the 2023 WBC as its manager. He had originally played in the WBC for the USA in 2017, winning the gold medal. However, he opted to represent Israel in the 2020 Summer Olympics after obtaining citizenship.

The former baseman played for Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers. He is the 2018 World Series champion and a 4-time All-Star member.

It is Israel's 2nd appearance in the WBC. Israel's greatest performance happened in 2017 when they clinched the 6th position in the 2nd round.

Guido was born in Nicaragua's Leon and the 44-year-old has been embedded with the Nicaraguan national team since March 12, 2016.

Mark got hired to become the US national team's manager in August 2022. He also works for the MLB Network since his retirement from playing in 2013.

As a player, he was adaptable in every position, being a Utility player for the Atlanta Braves, Texas Rangers, and Toronto Blue Jays. He made 100 home runs in his baseball career. 

The USA has made 5 WBC appearances and is the 2017 World Baseball Classic Champion. Many MLB players are playing for this nation.

Kang-Chul has been the manager of the Korean baseball team, KT Wiz, since 2019. He also coached the Kia Tigers from 2006 to 2012. 

He is also a former pitcher for the KBO League, playing for the Haitai Tigers, and has won 5 Korean Series Championships with them.

South Korea has made its 5th appearance for the WBC, and had a great run in 2009, winning the silver medal.

The team Czech Republic manager for the 2023 WBC is Pavel Chadim.

Pavel officially became the Czech manager in 2021. Upon his arrival, the Czech national team has seen success, getting qualified for the WBC 2023. He had helped in the management duties during the 2012 U-21 European Championship.

Born in 1971, Chadim played in the Extraliga as its outfielder. He later coached the Czechia's youth baseball team.

It is Czechia's 1st appearance in the WBC. After coming 2nd in the Qualifiers surprisingly, they seek to make a good impression in their debut edition.

Hideki joined as a Manger for the Japanese National team in 2021. He started his managing career in the NPO League in 2012. Kuriyama achieved the 2016 Japan Series Championship with his team. 

As a player, he debuted in October 1984 for the Yakult Swallow, where he retired in 1990. He gained the Central League Golden Glove Award in 1989. 

It is Japan's 5th WBC appearance. They have set a prolific record in WBC, winning it twice in 2006 and 2009.

The 2023 WBC team Cuba manager is Armando Johnson. 

Armando guided the Cuban team in the 2010 World Junior Championship to achieve the Bronze Medal. He was hired for the job in 2022. However, he started his career as a manager in 2002 with the Super Liga.

As a player, Johnson played in the Cuban Serie Nacional for 12 seasons. He had a fielding record of .891.

Cuba looks to make their 5th WBC appearance in 2023. Cuba won the silver medal in 2006.

The 2023 WBC team Netherlands manager is Hensley Meulens.

Born in Curacao Island, Hensley has been managing the Dutch national team since the 2013 WBC. He also coached various MLB teams like the New York Yankees and Colorado Rockies, which he is handling in 2023. 

The 55-year-old former outfielder debuted in the MLB for the Yankees in August 1989. He went on to play till 1998. He is a 3-time World Series Champion. 

The Netherlands is making its fifth appearance in the Classic. Their best result came during the 2013 WBC, where they reached the Semi-finals.

The 2023 WBC team Italy manager is former MLB catcher, Mike Piazza. 

The 54-year-old started his Italian managerial career in November 2019. He also coached the Italian side in its hitting during the 2013 WBC. 

Mike is a former famous MLB player who is inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He is also considered a legend for the NY Mets. With 12 All-Star appearances, he played from 1992 to 2007. 

Italy looks to make its 5th appearance in the WBC. They showcased their best outcome in the 2013 edition, getting in the 7th position of the 2nd round.

Ortiz started his managerial job for Panama in 2022, with his first tournament the WBC Qualifiers. He was successful in guiding the team to the 2023 WBC. 

A Canal Zone native, Luis is a former Panama national team coach and guided them in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. He also had a coaching record in the MiLB's FCL Braves (GCL before 2021).

Panama will enter its 3rd WBC tournament and will seek to improve from their best result till now, which was being in the 14th position in the 1st round back in the 2006 edition.

The 41-year-old started his managerial career at the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions in the Chinese Professional Baseball League in 2020. He had a win-loss record of 122-112. 

As a former pitcher for the Lions, Yueh-ping played from 2005 to 2017. For his nation, he achieved Gold in the 2006 Doha Asian Games, and Silver in the 2002 Intercontinental Cup.

Chinese Taipei has yet to win a WBC. However, their best performance was when they reached the 2nd round in the 2013 competition, and got 8th position.

Lopez began his managerial career for the Venezuelan national team in August 2022. He got hired to guide the team to the 2023 WBC. He is involved as the head base coach of the Houston Astros and aided them in winning the World Series title. 

As a former player himself, Omar played in the Minor League. He started as a manager at the MiLB in 2008. He also has managed in his Venezuelan League for the Caribes de Anzoátegui.

Venezuela has made 5 appearances in the WBC and has a strong lineup with many MLB players. Their best result was in 2009 reaching the semi-finals.

The 2023 WBC team Puerto Rico manager is former MLB Catcher Yadier Molina.

Yadier announced that in 2022, he would be managing Puerto Rico's national team for the 2023 WBC. He had started his managerial career on the Puerto Rico U-23 baseball team and guided them to the consolation round in the Baseball World Cup.

Molina had a great MLB career with the St.Louis Cardinals from 2004 to 2022. He played in 10 All-Star games and is a 2-time World Series Champion. 

Puerto Rico will make their 5th WBC appearance in 2023. They have fared well in the previous editions, winning the silver medal in the 2013 and 2017 tournaments respectively.

Dean is a former pitcher who started his managerial career in 1988. He coached minor baseball league teams like Albuquerque Isotopes and Indianapolis Indians. He then became a bullpen coach for the Miami Marlins in 2016. 

Born in San Luis Obispo, California, the 75-year-old played for the Cincinnati Reds. However, he retired in 1975 due to injury. 

China has made 5 appearances in the WBC, and it showcased its best performance in 2009, reaching 11th place in the first round.
